Borussia Dortmund’s new sporting director, Ole Book, has confirmed the club’s strong interest in 16-year-old midfield prodigy Kennet Eichhorn, who recently made history as the youngest goalscorer in the 2. Bundesliga. Speaking in a media round, Book praised Eichhorn’s creativity, stating, “I think he has a certain creativity. We know him well, we like him. Like many other clubs, we admire the player. We’ll see what the future holds.”

Eichhorn, who can leave Hertha BSC this summer due to a release clause reportedly set between €10 million and €12 million for Champions League clubs, is also attracting attention from RB Leipzig, Bayer Leverkusen, and Manchester City. According to Sky Sports, City and Leverkusen are discussing a potential deal that would see City activate the clause and immediately loan Eichhorn to the Werkself. The two clubs have maintained good relations following previous transfers involving Farid Alfa-Ruprecht and Claudio Echeverri in 2025.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich’s interest in Eichhorn faces internal resistance, with Uli Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge reportedly opposing a move, unlike sporting director Max Eberl. The club’s transfer priorities lie in finding a backup for Harry Kane and Luis Díaz. For midfield, they are more inclined to promote youth talent Noel Aseko, returning from Hannover 96, as a successor to the departing Leon Goretzka.

Book also addressed the search for a replacement for Julian Brandt, who will leave on a free transfer at the end of his contract. When asked if 18-year-old Samuele Inácio, who scored his first Bundesliga goal recently, could fill Brandt’s role, Book replied, “We have Inácio, and he will get his playing time. But we’ll still look at the market for more creativity and offensive power. We have a solid plan for Samuele.”

Regarding top scorer Serhou Guirassy, who has been linked with a move to Fenerbahce, Book said, “He fundamentally has a great desire to play for Borussia Dortmund.” The 30-year-old Guinea international is “very, very important,” and the club does not plan to sell him. However, Book acknowledged, “If extraordinary offers come in, we’ll think about it.” He added that the transfer market is unpredictable, especially with several players participating in the World Cup, which could generate unexpected offers.

Book emphasized that Dortmund must operate “economically responsibly” but confirmed there is room to “be creative and find other models for transfers.” He noted that it is highly likely further movements will occur over the summer. On Tuesday, Borussia Dortmund officially announced their third signing of the summer, Joane Gadou, from Red Bull Salzburg, following the arrivals of Kauã Prates and Justin Lerma. The club continues to monitor the market for a Brandt successor and other reinforcements.
