Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has been accused of making sexist remarks during a tense press conference, according to a report by The Sun. Perez publicly questioned whether a female journalist truly understood football and later made an offensive comment when handing the microphone to another female reporter, calling her and the rest of the room “very ugly.”
The heated exchange occurred as Perez addressed the media amid a turbulent season for the club. He first targeted a reporter from the Spanish national daily ABC, doubting her expertise after an article critical of the club was published. “Look at the two articles they wrote today, written by a woman whose knowledge of football I don’t even know,” he said.
Perez then went on to announce that he was canceling his subscription to ABC, a paper his father had read for decades, as a sign of protest. “I’m sorry, but my father started reading ABC years ago and subscribed to it. Now I’ve decided to cancel my subscription to honor him. He would be proud,” Perez stated. He also boasted about Real Madrid’s global brand, calling it the most powerful and valuable club in the world with the largest fanbase.
Later in the conference, Perez passed the floor to veteran Fox Sports journalist Lola Hernández, adding, “This young lady has the right to speak. But all of you are very ugly.” The remark sparked immediate backlash on social media, with fans expressing disappointment and disbelief. One fan wrote, “Completely crazy,” while another asked, “What the hell is happening?” Others simply reacted with question marks or exclamations of shock.
The Sun described the comments as clearly sexist, and the press conference has left many supporters questioning the club president’s conduct.
