Following a strong performance in Flamengo’s 1-0 away victory over Grêmio in the Brasileirão, debate has emerged over whether midfielder Carrascal has turned a corner. Analysts Rodrigo Mattos, Igor Siqueira, and Bruno Braz discussed the topic on the “Live do Flamengo” program.
Carrascal had been struggling, not just due to suspensions, but his overall form. However, against Grêmio he delivered a solid display beyond just scoring the winning goal. He hit the post, turned well, linked up play, and combined effectively with Plata and Varela on the right flank in the first half. He also could have floated more to the left. The main issue with Carrascal has been his tendency to over-dribble and lose possession, which can expose the team to counterattacks. This time, he played more one-touch football, which helped the entire team. That understanding—playing more like Arrascaeta—served him well.
Arrascaeta excels at one-touch play and explosive movement when space opens, always picking the best option. Carrascal managed to do that in this match. That said, Grêmio’s midfield was not pressing intensely, so that must be taken into account. Still, it was a good game from him.

Bruno Braz noted that Carrascal appears calmer and less likely to cause off-field problems. “He’s caused plenty of trouble before, but he seems a bit more settled now. On the ‘trouble scale,’ he was on par with Plata and Pulgar. But it looks like he has calmed down,” Braz said.
