Avangard captain Damir Sharipzyanov remains uncertain whether he will require surgery after suffering an injury during the playoffs.
In the third round of the postseason, Avangard fell to Lokomotiv in a 4-3 series loss. Speaking about the injury that forced him to sit out the final games of the series, Sharipzyanov said: “I’ve been dealing with this for the last two or three days. I went to the hospital this morning. There’s no answer yet. I hope we can avoid surgery.”
Sharipzyanov is not the only Avangard player to play through pain. Forward MacLeod reportedly skated against Lokomotiv with a knee ligament injury, while Ibrahimov played with a broken rib. For his part, Sharipzyanov took painkilling injections just to step on the ice, according to sources.
